Zulu time (denoted Z) is Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) — the single worldwide clock aviation uses so everyone, everywhere, shares one time reference. To convert your local time to Zulu, subtract your UTC offset: if you’re at UTC−5, a local time of 14:30 is 19:30Z.
Enter your local time and your offset from UTC (negative west of Greenwich, positive east) and the calculator returns the Zulu time, rolling past midnight correctly.
Zulu = local time − UTC offset
Another name for UTC — Coordinated Universal Time. Aviation and the military use it so all times are unambiguous worldwide.
Subtract your UTC offset. West of Greenwich the offset is negative, so you add those hours; east of it you subtract.
“Z” is the letter for the zero-offset time zone in the phonetic alphabet — Zulu.
