How the GPA Calculator Works

Your grade point average weights each course by its credit hours. Each letter grade converts to points on the standard 4.0 scale — A is 4.0, B is 3.0, and so on down to F at 0.0. Those points are multiplied by each course’s credits, and the total is divided by your total credits.

Some schools use a different scale, for example counting A+ as 4.3. This calculator uses the common US 4.0 scale; check your registrar if your school varies. To find a cumulative GPA, add every course from every term.

The standard US 4.0 scale: A is 4.0, A-minus is 3.7, B-plus is 3.3, B is 3.0, and so on down to F at 0.0. A-plus is counted as 4.0.
