A cubic yard is the volume of a cube three feet on each side — 27 cubic feet. Enter length, width and depth in the same unit, and the calculator converts everything to feet, multiplies to get cubic feet, then divides by 27 for cubic yards. It also shows cubic meters for metric jobs.
This is the unit landscaping and building materials — soil, gravel, concrete, mulch — are delivered in, so it is handy whenever you are ordering bulk material by volume.
cubic yards = length (ft) × width (ft) × depth (ft) ÷ 27
Exactly 27. A cubic yard is a cube three feet on each side, and 3 × 3 × 3 equals 27 cubic feet.
Enter all three dimensions in the same unit you select. If your measurements differ, convert them to one unit first.
