This calculator estimates the calories you burn during exercise using MET values — the Metabolic Equivalent of Task. One MET is the energy you use at rest; an activity rated at 8 METs burns eight times that. The standard formula multiplies the activity’s MET value by your body weight and time.
Specifically, calories per minute equal MET × 3.5 × your weight in kilograms ÷ 200. Pick your activity, enter your weight and how long you exercised, and the calculator returns the total, plus the rate per minute and per hour. Heavier people and harder activities burn more.
kcal/min = MET × 3.5 × weightkg ÷ 200
A MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) expresses how hard an activity is relative to sitting still, which is 1 MET. Running at 6 mph is about 9.8 METs, so it burns nearly ten times the resting rate.
It is a solid population-level estimate, but individual burn varies with fitness, efficiency and body composition. Treat it as a good ballpark rather than an exact figure.
Yes — a heavier body uses more energy to do the same work, so calories burned scale directly with weight in this formula.
