How the Bill Split Calculator Works
Add the tip to the bill, then divide by the number of people. On a $120 bill with an 18% tip, the tip is $21.60 and the grand total $141.60 — split four ways, that’s $35.40 each. Everyone covers an equal share of both the food and the gratuity.
This splits evenly, which is simplest for a shared meal. If people ordered very differently, split the items first and apply the tip proportionally. Rounding each share up to the nearest dollar is an easy way to make sure the tip is fully covered.
