Pixels per inch (PPI) measures how densely packed a screen’s pixels are. Take the resolution’s diagonal in pixels — the square root of width squared plus height squared — and divide by the screen’s diagonal in inches. A 1920×1080 laptop at 15.6 inches works out to about 141 PPI.
Higher PPI means sharper text and images. Phones now exceed 400 PPI; a “Retina” display is roughly the density at which a typical eye can no longer pick out individual pixels at normal viewing distance.

Find the diagonal resolution in pixels (√(w²+h²)) and divide by the screen’s diagonal in inches.
