How the Mulch Calculator Works

Mulch is spread to a depth over a bed, so the volume is length times width times depth. The calculator returns cubic yards for bulk delivery and the number of standard two-cubic-foot bags for smaller jobs. A two-to-three-inch layer suits most beds.

Buying in bulk by the cubic yard is usually cheaper than bags for large areas — one cubic yard equals about 13 and a half of the two-cubic-foot bags.
