How the Class Rank Calculator Works
Class rank places you within your class by academic standing. Two figures describe it: your percentile — the share of classmates you finished ahead of — and the top percent, your rank as a fraction of the class. Being 25th of 200 puts you in the top 12.5%, ahead of about 87.5% of the class.
Colleges and scholarships often ask for one or the other. A lower rank number and a higher percentile are both better. This is a straightforward positional figure — it doesn’t weight for course difficulty the way GPA can.

How do I calculate class rank percentile?
Subtract your rank from the class size, divide by the class size, and multiply by 100. Rank 25 of 200 is the 87.5th percentile.
What does “top 10%” mean?
Your rank is within the best 10% of the class. Rank divided by class size gives your top-percent figure.
Is a lower rank number better?
Yes. Rank 1 is the top of the class, so a smaller rank number means a higher standing.
