How the Dating Age Range Calculator Works

The old “half your age plus seven” rule of thumb gives a socially acceptable minimum age to date: divide your age by two and add seven. Reverse it — subtract seven and double — for the maximum. At 30, the range comes out to about 22 to 46.

It’s a lighthearted guideline, not a rule, and it means less at the older end where age gaps matter far less. Take it as a bit of fun.

youngest = age ÷ 2 + 7 · oldest = (age − 7) × 2

Is this rule actually accurate?

It’s just a fun guideline — not science, and it loosens a lot as people get older.
