How the Age Calculator Works

Your age is the time from your date of birth to today (or any date you choose). This calculator counts full years first, then the leftover months, then the leftover days — borrowing from the previous month when the day-of-month hasn’t come around yet, exactly the way people say their age. It also totals everything in months, weeks and days, and counts down to your next birthday.

Everything is worked out in your own browser using today’s date on your device, so nothing is sent anywhere. Leave the second box blank to use today, or set it to find your age on a past or future date.

age = years, then remaining months, then remaining days

Frequently Asked Questions

How is age calculated in years, months and days?

Count whole years from your birthday, then whole months, then the remaining days. If the day of the month hasn’t arrived yet, one month is borrowed and its days are added, which is why the day count is always positive.

Does it account for leap years?

Yes. Because it works with actual calendar dates, February 29 and differing month lengths are handled correctly in both the years-months-days breakdown and the total-days figure.

Can I find my age on a future or past date?

Yes — put that date in the second box. Leave it blank and the calculator uses today’s date from your device.
