Your cumulative GPA is a credit-weighted average of every semester, not a plain average of your semester GPAs. A term with more credits counts more. For each semester, multiply its GPA by its credit hours to get quality points, add up all the quality points and all the credits, then divide.
Add a row per semester and enter its GPA and the credits you took that term. Because it weights by credits, a heavy 4.0 semester lifts your cumulative GPA more than a light one does.
cumulative GPA = Σ(semester GPA × credits) ÷ Σ credits
Multiply each semester’s GPA by the credits taken that term, add up those quality points across all semesters, and divide by the total credits. That credit-weighted average is your cumulative GPA.
Because semesters can carry different numbers of credits. A simple average treats a 6-credit summer term the same as an 18-credit full term. Weighting by credits gives the correct cumulative figure.
Yes. Add a row for your current standing (your GPA so far and credits earned) and another for the grades you expect next term, and the result is your projected cumulative GPA.
