How the Decimal to Fraction Calculator Works

Any terminating decimal is a fraction over a power of ten. This calculator counts the digits after the decimal point, writes the number over 10, 100, 1000 and so on, then reduces it to lowest terms by dividing top and bottom by their greatest common divisor. So 0.75 becomes 75⁄100, which simplifies to 3⁄4.

If the number is bigger than one it also shows the mixed-number form (like 2½) and the improper fraction. Enter the decimal and it does the rest.

fraction = decimal over 10^(decimal places), reduced by the GCD
