Double time pays twice your regular hourly rate, often for holidays or hours beyond a daily or weekly threshold in some states and union contracts. Multiply your rate by two for the double-time rate, then by the double-time hours, and add your regular pay. At $20 an hour, 40 regular plus 8 double-time hours is $800 + $320 = $1,120.
Double time is different from overtime (time-and-a-half). Check your state law and employer policy for when each applies.
double-time pay = hourly rate × 2 × double-time hours
Twice your regular hourly rate, often paid for holidays or hours past a set daily or weekly limit.
Multiply your rate by two, then by the double-time hours. At $20/hr, 8 double-time hours is $320.
No — overtime is usually 1.5× (time and a half); double time is 2×.
