Open average calculator →Enter each shift as a start and end time with an optional unpaid break in minutes. The desk totals your week in decimal hours and in hours-and-minutes, live as you type.
| Start | End | Break (min) | Hours | Remove |
|---|
| Total hours and minutes | — |
|---|---|
| Rows counted valid shifts | — |
| Total break minutes deducted | — |
Each row is one shift. The calculator converts your start and end times to minutes past midnight, finds the difference, adds a day when the shift runs past midnight, then subtracts any unpaid break. The rows are summed into a grand total shown two ways.
row hours = ( end − start [+ 24h if overnight] − break ) / 60
HH:MM = whole hours : round( fractional hours × 60 )
The decimal total (for example 38.75) is what payroll systems usually want. The hours-and-minutes total (38:45) is the same figure written the way a clock shows it.
Type times like 9:00, 9:00am, or 17:30. Twelve-hour times with am or pm and 24-hour times both work.
If the end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator assumes the shift crossed midnight and adds 24 hours automatically.
The break is entered in minutes and subtracted from that row's worked time before it is added to the grand total.
