The Wilks coefficient scores a powerlifting total relative to bodyweight. It multiplies your total in kilograms by a coefficient from a fifth-order polynomial of your bodyweight, using separate constants for men and women. For decades it was the standard way to crown a “best lifter” across weight classes.
Wilks was the long-time standard; many federations have since moved to the DOTS formula, which better fits current data. The two give similar rankings for typical lifters and differ most at very light or very heavy bodyweights. Enter your total in pounds or kilograms.
Wilks = total(kg) × 500 ÷ (a + b·bw + … + f·bw⁵)
It scales a powerlifting total by bodyweight so lifters of different sizes can be compared. It was the sport’s standard scoring formula for years.
Both are valid. DOTS is newer and now used by many federations; Wilks is still widely quoted. This site offers both.
It’s designed for the three-lift total, but you can enter any total you want scored — just know the reference standards assume a full total.
