Firewood is sold by the cord — a stack measuring 4 ft high × 8 ft long × 4 ft deep, or 128 cubic feet. To find how many cords your stack holds, multiply its length, height and log depth (converted to feet) and divide by 128. A “face cord” is only as deep as the logs are long, so it’s a fraction of a full cord.
Enter your stack length and height in feet and the log length in inches; the calculator returns full cords, face cords and the total cubic feet.
cords = length × height × (log length÷12) ÷ 128
A full cord is 128 cubic feet — a stack 4 ft high, 8 ft long and 4 ft deep of tightly piled wood.
A stack 4 ft high and 8 ft long but only as deep as the logs are long (often 16–24 in), so about a third to a half of a full cord.
Measure the stack’s length and height in feet and the log length in inches, then this calculator converts it to cords.
