How the Bowling Score Calculator Works

Bowling scoring rewards strikes and spares with bonuses. A strike (X) scores 10 plus the next two balls; a spare (/) scores 10 plus the next one ball; an open frame just scores the pins knocked down. Enter each frame — X for a strike, a number then / for a spare, or two numbers for an open frame — and the calculator adds it all up with the bonuses.

The tenth frame allows a third ball if you strike or spare. A perfect game — twelve strikes — is 300.

strike = 10 + next two balls  ·  spare = 10 + next ball

Frequently Asked Questions

How is bowling scored?

Open frames score the pins knocked down. A spare adds the next ball to 10; a strike adds the next two balls to 10.

What is a perfect bowling score?

300 — twelve strikes in a row (one in each of the first nine frames plus three in the tenth).

How do I enter a strike or spare?

Type X for a strike, or a number followed by / for a spare (like 7/). Use - for a missed pin.
