Density is how much mass is packed into a given volume — mass divided by volume (ρ = m/V). This calculator takes mass in grams and volume in cubic centimetres and returns the density in g/cm³, plus the SI value in kg/m³.
Water is the benchmark at 1 g/cm³: anything denser sinks, anything less dense floats. Density is the same for a substance regardless of how much you have, which makes it handy for identifying materials.
density = mass ÷ volume
Divide mass by volume. 100 grams in 50 cm³ is a density of 2 g/cm³.
