How the Body Frame Size Calculator Works

Body frame size — small, medium or large — is estimated from the ratio of your height to your wrist circumference. A larger ratio means a finer frame. For women, a ratio above 11 is a small frame, 10.1–11 medium, and below 10.1 large; men’s cutoffs are slightly lower. Measure the wrist just below the bump toward the hand.

Frame size helps interpret ideal-weight ranges: two people of the same height can have healthy weights several pounds apart depending on their frame.

frame = height ÷ wrist circumference (banded by sex)

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find my body frame size?

Divide your height by your wrist circumference and compare to the small/medium/large bands for your sex.

Why does frame size matter?

It adjusts ideal-weight targets — a larger frame carries more healthy weight at the same height.

Where do I measure my wrist?

Just below the wrist bone, toward the hand, at the narrowest point.
