Surface area is the total area of all the outer faces of a solid, in square units — what you’d need to paint, wrap or coat it. Choose a solid and the calculator uses the right formula: box 2(ab+ah+bh), cube 6a², sphere 4πr², cylinder 2πr(r+h) and cone πr(r+slant).
It’s useful for painting, packaging, heat-loss and material estimates. Keep measurements in the same unit for a result in that unit squared.
