Horses mature fast then age more slowly. A rough conversion: the first year is about 6.5 human years, the second another 6.5, the third about 5, and each year after that roughly 2.5 human years. By that reckoning a 10-year-old horse is around 35 in human terms — a solid adult.
Horses commonly live into their late 20s or beyond, so a 20-year-old horse is a senior rather than ancient. Breed, size and care all shift the real picture.
human age ≈ 6.5 + 6.5 + 5 for years 1–3, then +2.5 per year
Roughly 35 — a healthy adult.
Often 25–30 years, and sometimes more with good care.
Typically around 15–20 years, when it enters its senior stage.
