How the Dew Point Calculator Works

The dew point is the temperature air must cool to before water vapour starts to condense — it’s the truest measure of how humid and “muggy” the air actually feels, better than relative humidity alone. A dew point below 55°F feels comfortable; above 65°F feels sticky and oppressive.

This calculator uses the Magnus–Tetens formula, the standard approximation used in meteorology, taking the air temperature and relative humidity and returning the dew point in both Fahrenheit and Celsius.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a comfortable dew point?

Below about 55°F feels dry and comfortable. 60–65°F starts to feel humid, and above 70°F is oppressive and sweaty.

Is dew point better than humidity?

For comfort, yes. Relative humidity changes with temperature, but dew point is an absolute measure of moisture in the air.

Can the dew point be higher than the temperature?

No. The dew point is always equal to or below the air temperature; when they’re equal, the humidity is 100%.
