An exponent tells you how many times to multiply the base by itself: 2 to the power 10 means 2 × 2 × … ten times, which is 1,024. This calculator raises any base to any power, including negative exponents (which give the reciprocal) and fractional exponents (which are roots — a power of 0.5 is a square root).
It also shows the result in scientific notation, handy when powers get very large or very small, and the base’s square and cube for quick reference.
base^exponent = base multiplied by itself ‘exponent’ times
It’s repeated multiplication. 2^10 means multiply 2 by itself 10 times, giving 1,024. The base is the number, the exponent is how many times.
It means one over the positive power: 2^−3 = 1 ÷ 2³ = 0.125. The calculator shows the reciprocal.
A root. A power of 1/2 is a square root, 1/3 a cube root. So 27^(1/3) = 3.
