A 4.0 grade-point average maps back to a percentage using the standard US grade scale, where 4.0 is an A (about 93–100%), 3.0 is a B (83–86%), 2.0 is a C (73–76%) and so on. This calculator converts a GPA on the common unweighted 4.0 scale into an approximate percentage and letter grade.
Conversions vary slightly by school, since some use plus/minus grades and different cutoffs, so treat the result as a close estimate rather than an official transcript figure.
percentage ≈ standard 4.0-scale grade table lookup
Map the GPA to the standard grade table: 4.0≈95%, 3.0≈85%, 2.0≈75%. This calculator interpolates between those points.
No — schools set their own cutoffs. A common rule of thumb multiplies GPA by about 25, but the grade-table method used here is more accurate at the top end.
On the standard scale a 3.5 GPA is roughly 90% — an A-minus.
