How the Golf Handicap Calculator Works
A golf handicap is built from score differentials, one per round: (your score − the course rating) × 113 ÷ the slope rating. The 113 is the standard slope, so this adjusts your score for how hard the course played. A 90 on a course rated 72 with a 113 slope gives an 18.0 differential.
Your official Handicap Index is roughly the average of your best differentials (the best 8 of your last 20 rounds under the current World Handicap System). This calculator gives the differential for a single round — the building block.
