Your dividend income is simply the dividend per share multiplied by the number of shares you hold. The yield expresses that dividend as a percentage of the share price, which lets you compare holdings of very different prices on equal footing.
annual income = shares × dividend per share
yield % = ( dividend per share / share price ) × 100
quarterly = annual / 4 monthly = annual / 12
If you know the payout in dollars, enter it directly. If you only know the yield, switch modes and the calculator multiplies the yield by the share price to recover the per-share dividend.
A dividend reinvestment plan buys more shares with each payout, so next year's dividend is paid on a slightly larger holding. The projection compounds this year over year and can also grow the dividend and the share price, giving a rough picture of long-run accumulation. It is an illustration only and ignores taxes and fees.
Yield is the annual dividend per share divided by the share price, expressed as a percent. A one dollar dividend on a twenty dollar share is a five percent yield.
Yes. Switch the dividend input to yield percent and the calculator derives the dollars-per-share from the share price you entered.
DRIP stands for dividend reinvestment plan. The projection reinvests each year's dividends into more shares, optionally growing the dividend and share price, and shows the compounding over several years.
