| INT % | — |
The NFL passer rating combines four things — completion percentage, yards per attempt, touchdown rate and interception rate — into a single number. Each is turned into a component capped between 0 and 2.375, then the four are averaged and scaled: (sum ÷ 6) × 100. A stat line of 20/30 for 250 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT comes to about 100.7.
The scale runs from 0 to a maximum of 158.3 (a “perfect” rating). It’s the NFL formula; the NCAA uses a different one.
rating = (comp + yards + TD + INT components) ÷ 6 × 100
Four capped components — completion %, yards/attempt, TD rate and INT rate — are averaged and scaled by 100/6.
158.3 in the NFL, reached by maxing out all four components.
No — college football uses a different formula that isn’t capped the same way.
