Speed, distance and time are tied together by one relationship: speed equals distance divided by time. Rearranging it lets you find any one of the three from the other two — distance is speed times time, and time is distance divided by speed. This calculator solves for whichever you choose.
Enter your figures with distance in miles or kilometres and time in hours, and it returns the answer plus the speed expressed in miles per hour, kilometres per hour and metres per second, so you can read it in whatever unit you need.
speed = distance ÷ time
Divide the total distance travelled by the total time taken. If you drove 120 miles in 2 hours, your average speed was 60 miles per hour.
Divide minutes by 60 to get hours before entering it, since this calculator uses hours. Ninety minutes is 1.5 hours.
One mile per hour is about 1.609 kilometres per hour and about 0.447 metres per second. The calculator shows all three so you do not have to convert by hand.
