How the Rounding Calculator Works

Rounding replaces a number with a nearby, simpler one. Pick how precise you want to be — a number of decimal places, or the nearest 10, 100 or 1,000 — and the calculator rounds to it using the standard rule: look at the next digit, round up if it’s 5 or more, down if it’s less.

It also shows rounding down (floor), rounding up (ceiling) and truncation, since different situations call for different methods — pricing often rounds up, while measurements usually round to the nearest.
