How the Square Footage Calculator Works

Square footage is simply length times width. Enter both measurements in the same unit — feet, inches, yards or meters — and the calculator converts everything to feet first, so the answer always lands in square feet. Multiply by the number of identical areas to cover several rooms at once.

For an L-shaped room, split it into rectangles, calculate each, and add the results. Enter a price per square foot to estimate flooring, tile or paint costs, and add ten percent for cuts and waste.
