How the Fraction to Decimal Calculator Works

A fraction is just a division waiting to happen: the numerator divided by the denominator. Three-quarters (3⁄4) is 3 ÷ 4 = 0.75. This calculator does that division and also shows the value as a percentage.

Some fractions give a clean, terminating decimal; others repeat forever (1⁄3 = 0.3333…). The result is shown to several decimal places so you can see which kind you have.

decimal = numerator ÷ denominator

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you convert a fraction to a decimal?

Divide the top number by the bottom number. For 3⁄4, that’s 3 ÷ 4 = 0.75.

Why do some fractions repeat?

If the denominator has prime factors other than 2 and 5, the decimal never terminates — like 1⁄3 = 0.333…

What is 3/4 as a decimal?

0.75.
