How the BMI Prime Calculator Works

BMI Prime is your BMI divided by 25 — the upper limit of the healthy range — so it shows at a glance how you compare to that ceiling. A BMI Prime of 1.0 sits exactly at the top of normal; below 1.0 is within the healthy range, and 1.2 marks the start of obesity. A BMI of 24.4 gives a BMI Prime of about 0.98.

The advantage is intuition: 1.15 immediately reads as “15% above the healthy limit,” which a raw BMI number doesn’t convey.

BMI Prime = BMI ÷ 25

Frequently Asked Questions

What is BMI Prime?

Your BMI divided by 25. A value of 1.0 is the top of the healthy range; higher means proportionally overweight.

What is a normal BMI Prime?

0.74 to 1.0 is the healthy range, matching a BMI of 18.5 to 25.

Why use BMI Prime?

It shows how far you are above or below the healthy limit as a simple ratio — 1.1 means 10% over.
