How the Contraction Timer Works

Timing contractions means measuring their frequency — the time from the start of one to the start of the next — and watching how it changes. Tap the button at the beginning of each contraction and this timer records the interval, the running average and your recent pattern. Everything stays in your browser.

A common guideline for full-term labour is the 5-1-1 rule: contractions about 5 minutes apart, each lasting around 1 minute, continuing for at least 1 hour. But every labour is different — follow the instructions your provider gave you, and call them when in doubt.

frequency = time between the starts of consecutive contractions

Note: an estimate for general guidance, not medical advice. Your doctor or midwife knows your situation best.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I time contractions?

Tap at the start of each contraction. The timer measures the interval to the next start (frequency) and averages your recent pattern.

What is the 5-1-1 rule?

A common sign of active labour: contractions about 5 minutes apart, each roughly 1 minute long, for at least 1 hour. Follow your provider’s specific advice.

Is my data saved anywhere?

No. The timer runs entirely in your browser and resets when you refresh or press Reset.
